DWG File Format

LD Assistant uses Autodesk’s AutoCAD DWG file format. DWG is the native format for AutoCAD software and AutoCAD-based products. Autodesk owns, develops, and iterates the DWG file format.

The DWG format changes every few years, as Autodesk adds new features to AutoCAD.

Several reverse engineered software libraries exist that simulate the DWG file format with various levels of success in providing DWG read and write capabilities.

With eight million users and over a billion AutoCAD DWG files in existence, no wonder other CAD software companies want you to believe that they can import and export to DWG without any problems!

LD Assistant PL 10

LD Assistant PL 10 adds advanced lighting, sound, video and production tools to AutoCAD®. Designed as a plug-in for AutoCAD® 2010 releases, LD Assistant PL 10 is an object ARX and DBX driven program, written and compiled in C++.

LD Assistant PL 10 offers the easiest, most cost-effective way to design your lighting, sound, video and other production elements - and simulate the entire event in AutoCAD®.

LD Assistant PL 10 stores all of the drawing's information in a single DWG (AutoCAD) file to facilitate management of your design. Changes to paperwork will automatically be reflected in your drawing. There's also an extensive 2D/3D library with thousands of drag-and-drop objects, each dynamic representations of real-world objects including lighting fixtures, trusses, sound cabinets, people, doors, windows, etc.

Spreadsheet and database functions allow you to easily attach information to objects in your drawing, such as type, size, accessory, cable ID, channel, circuit, color, dimmer, DMX channel, DMX line, focus, frame size, gobos, position, part number, unit and pricing information.

LD Assistant PL 10 presentation tools let you create high-quality renderings with dramatic lighting effects and even animated AVI movies of your designs. Create photo realistic renderings from within the main drawing area, and render to a window or to a file. You can create new blocks, textures, gobos and even edit existing objects!

Real-Time Pre-Visualization

LD Assistant PL 10 comes with built-in support for 64 DMX-512 Universes, and can both send DMX and receive DMX through a dongle. Lighting consoles and lighting systems can be connected using Pathport Ethernet, Art-Net Ethernet, Art-Net Parallel, LD-Net USB, ENTTEC Ethernet, ENTTEC Open USB & Pro USB dongles. Once a plot has been created, the design is opened (with one button click) in LD Control, a real-time visualizer for pre-cueing and testing designs. Save thousands of scenes and cues within a single DWG file. Creating AVI movies of scenes and cues with the push of a button.
